530pm -645pm on Thursdays at Pederson Park in Vienna (off Malcolm/Vale Rd)
Practice will be held in a light rain, but not during heavy downpours and any thunder storm after 5pm will cancel us for Thursdays as we would have to delay at least 30 minutes after the last lightning strike, so that would end much chance ofr a practice even with a storm going through very quickly.
Next meet is Sat 5/26 at Robinson HS . It is the PVTC all comer meet. Details at www.pvtc.org/outdoor
Use the same number as for the Fairfax/Chantilly meets. We will need helpers to hand out numbers and help setup/cleanup our team area/organge tent/etc.
We will try to have occassional extra practices on Mondays as space allows at either Marshall or Madison HS. These are TBD at this point.
Details coming soon about hte Association meet, there is no prelim meet hte first week in June, so as soon as I get the schedule for the Association meet June 15-17 I will pass it on so you can figure out what events you can do at that meet.
It is a big meet (2500+ athletes) and requires a USATF card ($20), proof of age sent to the local association membership chair and pre-registration for events (about a week in advance). So it is a good chance to see where you are vs. the best in the area, but some may want to stay with the all-comer meets to avoid the big groups and advanced scheduling requirements.
The season will go through the Association meet for USATF which is typically in mid June
We may hold a few more practices after that for those that want to keep training even if they don't advance to the regional/national meets. We will hold an end of season picnic in late June.

UPDATED INFO FOR 5/6 and future meets
quick update for Sunday
I don't have an order of events, but I know they have a low/short 80m hurdle race first at 3pm
then they will have many other events (high jump along with shot , turbo jav, long jump)
and a bunch of running events 100/200/400/800/1600 not sure if they have a 3000)
I will send out the order if I get it before noon tomorrow.
If not jsut show up and do what you can at the meet
They will hand out ribbons at the meet, but this is a low key meet, we will need helpers to assist Chantilly at the meet iwth the various field evnets and to help time/coral kids at the check in for each event, etc.
Please see me to get a race official apron as they had a random adult with no kids particiapating at their meet last month just hanging around the infield, so they are not allowing any non-volunteers onto the infield.
It should be a fun chance to get some more experience with at a meet.
I will be there at 220-230 near the shed by the finish line if you need a uniform.
See you there!
there are several meets that have 1000+ kids at them the rest of this month, I am trying to find a smaller meet to go to (like the Chantilly one)
so far the weeekends look like this going forward
5/13 will be a practice 12-130 at Marshall
5/20 will be a practice 12-130 at Marshall
5/26 at Robinson 830-1 for the PVTC all comer meet...free to enter...we just ask for a bit of help with moving hurdles, or help at a field event or data entry.
5/27 last practice at Marshall
hopefully Mondays at Madison (or Marshall) in June details TBA
upcoming meets that require pre-registration
no prelim for USATF this year so straight to the association meet:
6-14-17 at PG Sportsplex USATF ASSOCIATION MEET
each athlete needs a usatf # (register/renew at usatf.org expires at end of year) this is a big meet with 2500+ athletes at it....it will run long but sometimes they run ahead of schedule too! weird but true. A field event may be 30 minutes early or 90 minutes late. the running events may run up to 30 minutes early and they call them in 45 minutes before. Good competition, just need a little to a lot of patience!
this meet advances top 8 (in each event/age group) to the regional in Hampton, VA July 5-8
From regionals top 5 go to nationals in greensboro NC July 23-29
Field and Facility Conduct
Dear Parents and Coaches,
VYI has received some complaints concerning the behavior of some parents, coaches and/or children using area sports facilities. While many of these complaints are eventually discovered to be related to other sports that are not related to VYI, we want to ensure our members continue to be respectful of the neighborhoods, schools, and parks that host our practices and events. Some of the specific complaints we’ve received include:
Parking in front of neighborhood houses and obstructing resident access
Walking through private property
Generally disturbing the peace and quiet of the people living around the fields and gyms
As stated previously, we don’t know if any of the incidents reported involve VYI parents, coaches or children but it is appropriate that we establish guidelines so that everyone knows what is expected of them. Anything a parent, coach or player does while attending a VYI activity reflects on VYI and all of us individually.
Use of area gyms and fields is a privilege not a right. VYI has an excellent reputation in the community and because of that we enjoy certain privileges. It is imperative that we maintain this reputation. We are guests in these neighborhoods and must conduct ourselves accordingly.
We will be amending the parents Code of Conduct rules to spell out specific expectations but here are some rules that we must all follow:
Parking on residential side streets is only permitted when all lots adjacent to a facility are full.
Do not park in the designated SACC (School Age Child Care) parking areas in school parking lots
When it is necessary to park on a neighborhood street we must be quiet and respectful of the residents and their property. This means there should be no yelling, littering or trespassing on private property.
Never park in such a way as to block a driveway or otherwise obstruct the resident from leaving their home or parking in front of it.
Make sure we leave each facility clean and free of trash.
Be a leader. If you witness inappropriate behavior intervene and report to a coach or commissioner as appropriate.
We appreciate your support in ensuring that we have continued access to the facilities that are vital to our sports programs.
